coral reefs are very fragile sensitive ecosystems that can only tolerate a narrow temperature range. when the ocean warms, the oxygen content reduces, and corals become ‘bleached’.

(polar bears must swim greater distances in open water to find the sea ice habitat that is home to their prey: seals, which use breathing holes through the ice)
